Organizational culture: it can make or break a business, a system, a livelihood. The “conditions” in which people work determine the value they provide in support of the mission. From a safety perspective, this means people work safely regardless if anyone is looking: it’s pride, passion and commitment in one. That can only happen if the organizational culture allows people to make safe errors, realize it, share it, and learn from it. It’s one way a business can elevate instead of stagnate. Create the “conditions” in which people view safety as a contributing function.
